The 6th Annual Russian Film Week in New York proudly announces its return to Manhattan with 12 ground-breaking and provocative Russian films. The event will run from October 13–19 at Cinema Village with a special opening night gala celebration that includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, champagne reception and film premiere at Florence Gould Hall on Friday, October 13 at 6 P.M.
The opening film at Florence Gould Hall (55 East 59th Street) is Transit (Peregon), a striking World War II drama by acclaimed director Alexander Rogozhkin. The film depicts the life of Russian and American pilots who transport American “Air Cobra” fighter aircrafts through Alaska and Siberia to the frontline. It is a complex story of Russians, Americans, Aboriginals of the Far North and includes a love story of a Russian officer and an American pilot whose language and cultural barriers lead to amusing, touching, awkward, and sometimes tragic events. Transit was nominated for a Crystal Globe award at the 2006 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Other films in the line-up include Playing the Victim by Kirill Serebrennikov, The 7th Day by Kakha Kikabidze, Alive by Alexander Veledinsky, The Island by Pavel Lungin and Natalya Lyashchenko, Polumgla by Artyom Antonov, Relations by Avdotya Smirnova, The Last Coalface by Sergei Bobrov, The Man of No Return by Ekaterina Grokhovskaya, Peter FM by Oksana Bychkova, Ellipsis by Andrei Eshpai and a premiere of Spy Games: The Black Wolf Hunt.
Special guests expected include world-famous writer/director Pavel Lungin (The Wedding) and notable Russian actors, Alexey Chadov (Night Watch), Marat Basharov (The Wedding), Dmitry Duzhev, Anna Mikhalkova, Mikhail Porechenkov and Evgenia Simonova. Politicians and Rock Brynner (son of Academy award-winner Yul Brynner (The King and I) will also be in attendance. Further announcements on red carpet events and talent attending will be forthcoming.
The 7th Day Genre: Drama Director: Kakha Kikabidze Cast: Anatoly Beliy, Vladimir Vdovichenkov, Amiran Amiranashvili, Aleksey Kolubkov, Maxim Konovalov, Maria Poroshina, Boris Romanov, Vitaly Khayev Nikolay gambles away a large sum of money, but refuses to pay it back, considering himself to have been tricked. The creditor sends two cut throats (Milkum and Girya) to his house and Nikolay flees. Late at night he stumbles on an old man’s house, where the old man recognizes him as his great-grandson and happily declares that he can now pass away in peace. Mulkum and Girya catch up with Nikolay in the village, commemorating the old man’s death and learn, that the old man left his grandson quite an inheritance…
Alive Genre: Fantasy, Drama, Mystery Director: Alexander Veledinsky Script: Igor Porublev Alexander Veledinskiy contributed to the script Cast: Andrei Chadov, Maxim Lagashkin, Vladimir Yepifantsev, Aleksey Chadov, Alexander Robak Kir is a young man who returns home, wounded from the Chechen War. His mother and a fiancé meet him, full of joy and tears, not knowing the extent to which Kir’s war experience changed him. He commits larceny and treachery and gets tangled in his destructive path. At that moment the ghosts of two of his fellow soldiers appear before him, following his every step. Balancing between life and death, Kir is searching for answers and a chance to forgive himself.

Dramatic, heartbreaking and sometimes happy situations develop between the German prisoners kept in the village and the Russian women who live there. Despite the hostility of the war period and the differences between these groups of people, real human relationships develop. Some learn how to hate, some fall deeply in love but most learn that a simple human connection can be found at the most unlikely circumstances.

The Last Coalface Genre: Drama Director: Sergei Bobrov Cast: Peter Zajtsenko, Sergei Garmash, Artur Smolyaninov, Nina Usatova The action takes place in a miner’s town during collapse of the USSR. The protagonists are coal miners of different ages and generations. All their thoughts, joys and sorrows are connected with their families and relatives. They are in despair and do not know how to make the quality of their families’ lifes. So they decide to blow themselves up in the mine. They believe that in this case their relatives will get good compensation.
The Man of No Return Genre: Drama Director: Ekaterina Grokhovskaya Script: Pyotr Stepin Cast: Galina Jovovich (Loginova), Ekaterina Rednikova, Sergei Krapiva, Anna Churina, Andrey Egorov, Alyona Yakovleva, Sergei Chonishvili, Anna Khilkevich, Elena Valyushkina, Mikhail Remizov, Vitaly Gogunsky, Olga Zaitseva “The Man of No Return” is a story about several families somehow connected to each other. Each family member contributes his storyline to the plot.

When reconnecting with her, he tries to comprehend what happened to him and how people lived in the 20th century.
Spy Games: The Black Wolf Hunt Genre: Action Director: Georgiy Gavrilov Script: Ezhen Shedrin, Aleksandr Pronin, Yuri Kamenetsky Cast: Igor Kostolevsky, Levan Uchaneishvili, Elena Korikova, Natasha Alam, Aleksandr Krasnopolsky, Lev Kotlyar The third installment of the Russian James Bond series starring Igor Kostolevsky as Colonel Matveev. Following a failure to catch an international terrorist with a nickname Black Wolf in the mountains of Chechnya, Special Forces in Russia want to keep the failure under the wraps, so they turn to Colonel Matveev, already retired. Matveev starts his unofficial investigation to help out and get revenge for his friend who was killed by Black Wolf during that Chechen operation.
