Think of Yat-Kha as the new wave of Tuvan throat singing, with its mystical, eerie overtones that seem unearthly. But to that sound of traditional instruments like the tungur, they added electric guitar and, far more importantly, a sense of Western post-punk rock dynamics. Unlike most of their countrymen, Yat-Kha don't want to just keep the past alive; they want to integrate it into a musical future. That's their manifesto- laid out so eloquently, and wonderful it is, too. Having roots in both traditional and rock Yat-Kha is uniquely positioned to hybrid the two forms. They pull it off in a way that no one else has been able to, making the electric instruments sound perfectly natural in the traditional melodies.
