Originally from Moscow, via the Bronx, Regina Spektor plays piano and sings. Suffice to say, that her second full album is called Soviet Kitsch. She Toured with the Strokes, to critical acclaim:

A tough mind backs up the whimsies of Regina Spektor, whose second self-released album is "Soviet Kitsch". Above her quasi-classical piano, with a voice that goes from girlish to Bronx brassy, she imagines surreal transformations, refracting a sense of mortality with wry humor: "They made a statue of us/ Our noses have begun to rust."

(The New York Times, "Winter's Blockbuster Soundtrack")
