Started as a hip garage band in Vladivostok during the last years of the Soviet Union, Mumiy Troll gained immense popularity with a combination of melodic pop-rock and Ilya Lagutenko's offbeat lyrics and coy, androgynous performance style. Their live performances burst with energy, warmth and debauchery.
Mumiy Troll remain one of Russia's most glamourous pop-stars. The band represented Russia at the Eurovision Contest 2001 (finished twelfth with Lady Alpine Blue).
On the symbolical date of July 7th 2007 Mumiy Troll's 7th studio album "AMBA" was released. Not seeming to slow down on August 8 2008 MT released their 8th studio album ... laconically titled 8. The double album was recorded in Moscow and Los Angeles and received high praise from critics and fans.
In aprill MT will release their first stateside CD titled Comrade Ambassador, described as "a nuclear meltdown of The Bravery, Tom Petty and The Afghan Whigs" by the Los Angeles Times. Comrade Ambassador will consist of 14 tracks taken from the band's two most recent releases, AMBA (2007) and VIII (2008), and a bonus Russian-language cover of The Mamas & the Papas' classic "California Dreamin'". In fact, all of the tracks on Comrade Ambassador will be in Russian.
Now, they are set to conquer the United States with their live tour and the follow up to debut US release, Comrade Ambassador - Paradise Ahead.
